Last Weekend of Normal Service

The weeked of 1st and 2nd of January 1966 was to have been the end of services on the S&D. The last-minute withdrawl of a bus operator resulted in a 2-month reprieve, but the two 'farewell' specials planned for the weekend ran anyway.

Across the branch, the RCTS special was pulled by Ivatt 2-6-2T nos. 41283 & 41307. On its return through Glastonbury just after dusk, the special pauses briefly to exchange single-line tokens...	...and restarts with a stirring display of steam and smoke! 2.1.66

Unusual Shunt

On this occasion, the 10.20 train left Glastonbury for Highbridge as usual, but stopped just outside the station. Another engine which was shunting in the yard then followed it, propelling several vans. These were attached to the rear of the Highbridge train, before it continued on its journey.

Collett 0-6-0 no. 3200 comes to a stop outside Glastonbury station while working the 10.20 train to Highbridge...	...allowing another engine to attach vans to the rear of the train. Does this gives the appearance of a 1970's 'Inter-City 125' or 'HST'? 31.8.64
