2.5.92 Camas Luinie, Falls of Glomach
14.8.92 Roseberry Topping (1050 ft)
Roseberry topping is not an instant dessert mixture but an isolated hill near Middlesborough, shaped like a squashed Matterhorn. We visited it one balmy afternoon while holidaying nearby at Boggle Hole, and the combination of its name, its shape, and the holiday atmosphere worked a strange magic on the whole family. There's no other rational expanation for our behaviour that afternoon, composing a song about the hill as we climbed it, then singing it on the summit, for the rest of the holiday, and long afterwards.
Goodbye
Roseberry Topping, Farewell Roseberry hill,
We climbed up to the top of you and it gave us such a thrill!
Goodbye Roseberry Topping, Farewell Roseberry hill,
We'll come back one day to see you again, we promise that we will.
Well, it sounded good at the time.
